Rides We Love | Robinson Hill Rd. - Panache Cyclewear Co.

August 17, 2016

One of the lesser known rides along the Front Range, the Robinson Hill climb, off Golden Gate Canyon, is an incredible route. Starting from downtown Golden, this 36 mile journey takes riders through narrow, twisty canyons, up steep pitches of loose gravel, and down ripping descents. This has long been one of our favorite rides. So, instead of hoarding its beauty, we decided to share it with the world.

Enjoy!

Heading west, from Golden, we made our way up Golden Gate Canyon. This winding canyon connects Golden to Peak to Peak Hwy and tops out at 9,200 ft before descending down to our first turn onto Robinson Hill Rd.

Golden Gate Canyon climbs and descends its way up to Peak to Peak Hwy. After passing over the first Summit, the descent winds down to the turn up to the Centennial Cone Mountain Bike Area.

After another short climb, Robinson Hill Rd. plateaus and rolls through the meadow at the base of Centennial Cone. The weather crept in, cooling us off with a mid day thunderstorm at high altitude.

The hills west of Golden are littered with Americana Architecture. As with all of our rides, we took in the history and culture outside of this small mining town. Here is one of the many old barns in the hills out West.

The plateau at Centennial Cone quickly gives way for quieter roads. Just before the dirt began, Robinson Hill Rd. provided us with serene views in the valley.

There's always time for a little exploring. This small dirt road off Robinson Hill Rd. was calling our names.

Aspen's and Evergreens gave us some much needed shade as the climbing began to take its toll on our legs. This short, 36 mile, route contains 5,400 ft. of climbing.

Even Professionals have to change their own flat tires! We met up with Chad Young of the Axeon Hagens Berman Professional Cycling Team for a few extra laughs.

After an incredibly steep climb up to the top of Robinson Hill Road, the dirt rolls along the top. The groves of Aspens eventually give way to incredible views of Squaw Pass and Mt. Evans.

After descending off of Robinson Hill Road, we made a right turn, through the meadow, onto Smith Hill Road. A short climb, then a long dirt descent put us back onto Golden Gate Canyon Road.

A few short climbs on the way back gave us more time to chat and laugh about the day's adventure. A couple of ripping descents made all of that climbing worth the effort.
